✝️ A Christmas Miracle: How Jesus Saved Me from the Operating Table

Blog Introduction:

There are moments in life when time stands still—when fear grips your heart, and you're left with nothing but faith. In December 2023, I found myself at the edge of life itself, battling unbearable pain, a mysterious infection, and a possible life-threatening surgery.

As a blood cancer survivor and Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT)patient, my body was already fragile. When doctors told me there were no guarantees—that I might not survive the surgery—I broke down. My only hope? God.

What happened next was nothing short of a Christmas miracle.

This is the story of how Jesus saved me from the operating table, how light broke through the darkest night, and how faith carried me through when medicine had no answers.

✝️ A Christmas Miracle: How Jesus Saved Me from the Operating Table

💔 When the Pain Began

November 2023 started like any other month—until it didn’t. One day, without warning, I began experiencing unbearable stomach pain. It was so intense that even the slightest touch from my four-year-old son sent shockwaves of pain through my body. I couldn’t stretch my legs or stand upright. Every movement became a battle.

We rushed to see a doctor, who immediately recommended an abdominal scan. The results revealed something alarming: pus formation in the walls of my abdomen. But that wasn’t all. I was also running a fever, and my condition was rapidly deteriorating.

The doctor advised us to return to the Cancer Institute in Adyar, Chennai—the place where I had once fought and survived blood cancer.

🏥 Back to the Hospital

On December 15th, 2023, my husband and I packed our bags and returned to the hospital. As always, he was by my side. But what broke me the most was leaving my little son again. How does a child understand why his mother keeps disappearing into hospitals? Only God knows the sorrow in his heart.

After a series of preliminary tests, I was admitted. Doctors suspected that the pain and infection could be side effects from previous chemotherapy and medication. As a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) patient, my immune system was weak, and complications were always a risk.

They attempted to extract the pus using a needle, but it was too solid. More tests were ordered. Still, nothing was conclusive. Time passed, our hope faded, and Christmas was just around the corner. All we wanted was to go home—but we were stuck in darkness, with no answers in sight.

💡 Where Was Our Hope?

“The Lord is my Light and my Salvation.”

That verse became our lifeline. Friends reached out, asking how I was doing, but I couldn’t even find the words to answer. I was emotionally and physically drained.

Then came the news that changed everything.

⚠️ The Operation We Feared

A doctor came into my room with a serious expression. “Sumathi,” he said gently, “we’re planning to perform surgery to remove the pus. But given your history as a BMT patient, there are complications. You’ll need to be on oxygen. You’ll be in the ICU for at least a week—maybe more. Recovery could take months. And… we can’t guarantee your life.”

My heart sank. The surgery was scheduled for December 25th—Christmas Day.

I cried out to God like never before. “Lord, I can’t do this anymore. If it’s Your will, take me. I can’t bear the pain, the fear, the unknown. But what about my son? My husband? Who will take care of them if I’m gone?”

The only thing I could do was pray and wait.

🙌 Then Came the Miracle

On the night of December 24th, just hours before the scheduled surgery, a member of the surgical team entered my room. What he said brought us all to tears:

“The operation is cancelled. Your latest test results are in. You’ve tested positive for abdominal tuberculosis. We now understand the root of the issue—and you’re out of immediate danger.”

In a moment, everything changed. What was once a crisis requiring high-risk surgery became a treatable infection. I was placed on the right medications and discharged for further outpatient treatment.

Jesus Saved Me

I truly believe it was God’s hand that intervened. No one else could have orchestrated the events the way they unfolded. From the timing of the diagnosis to the cancellation of a surgery that could have ended my life—every detail pointed to divine grace.

Jesus saved me on Christmas Day. Just like He came into the world to bring hope and healing, He stepped into my story when all hope seemed lost.

💬 Final Thoughts

To anyone reading this who feels hopeless, fearful, or lost—know that God is still in the business of miracles. He hears your prayers, even the silent ones. He is with you, even in the ICU. And He works behind the scenes, even when everything looks dark.

My life is a living testimony of His love, mercy, and healing power.
