Locked Down, Lifted Up: My Battle with Sickness and Spiritual Revival
"Fever" is not always about physical sickness.
Sometimes, it refers to an intense passion, such as "football fever"
or "cricket fever." However, in my case, it was an actual fever—one
that led to a life-changing journey of illness, faith, and recovery.
My Journey Through Fever During Lockdown
How It Began
During the lockdown, in June 2021, I developed a fever shortly
after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. It started as a mild reaction that
everyone assured me would pass in two days. Initially, they were right. But
soon, the fever returned, this time with extreme tiredness.
When Fever Wouldn’t Go Away
My friend, Mrs. Priya, a dentist, brought me medication for my
throat infection and fever. My friend, Mrs. Jhansi Moses, also arranged a video
consultation with Dr. Rajani.
Despite this, my fever persisted for a month. Concern grew,
and further medical evaluations revealed something I had not anticipated: blood
cancer.
The Diagnosis That Changed Everything
What seemed like a routine fever turned out to be a symptom of
a serious illness. Two failed chemotherapy sessions left me with persistent
fever and physical exhaustion. Yet, amidst the suffering, I experienced divine
intervention that gave me hope and healing.
Biblical Healing: Peter’s Mother-in-Law
A Lesson from the Bible
The Bible recounts Jesus healing Peter’s mother-in-law from a
fever:
"Now when Jesus had come into Peter’s house, He saw his
wife’s mother lying sick with a fever. So He touched her hand, and the fever
left her. And she arose and served them." (Matthew 8:14-15)
This story illustrates the miraculous power of Jesus’ touch
and the joy of serving God after receiving healing.
Faith in My Healing
During my darkest hours, when my body no longer responded to
fever medication, I prayed earnestly. Like Peter’s mother-in-law, I, too, was
touched by God’s grace. This miraculous healing gave me renewed strength and
restored my faith.
The Pain of Missing Sunday Service
Longing for Worship
While undergoing treatment, I deeply missed two things:
attending church services and spending time with my young son, Isaac. Every
Sunday morning, I felt the absence of fellowship and worship. These moments
taught me to appreciate life’s blessings, which we often overlook when
everything seems normal.
Finding Comfort in Online Services
In the hospital, I turned to online worship through “Aaradhanai Velai” broadcasts by Feba Radio. These sessions brought spiritual solace, keeping me connected to my faith and community despite my physical absence.
The Importance of Sunday Service
Biblical Teachings on Worship
The Bible underscores the value of coming together for worship:
- Psalms
122:1: "I rejoiced with those who said to me, ‘Let us go
to the house of the Lord.’"
- Matthew
18:20: "For where two or three gather in my name, there
am I with them."
- 1
Corinthians 14:26: "When you come together, each of
you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue, or an
interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built
up."
- 1
Thessalonians 5:11: “Therefore encourage one another and
build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
- Psalm
133:1: “How good and pleasant it is when God’s
people live together in unity!”
- Ephesians
5:19: “Speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs
from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord.”
Why Fellowship Matters
Church is more than a place of worship. It is a community where believers share joys, burdens, and guidance, strengthening one another’s faith. Even when physical attendance isn’t possible, maintaining a spirit of worship and engaging in fellowship are essential for spiritual growth.
Conclusion: A Call to Devotion
When I kneel before God, I feel an overwhelming sense of peace
and gratitude. In His presence, I am reminded of the importance of worship and
fellowship.
I now cherish every opportunity to attend Sunday service and
wish for everyone to experience this same longing. Let’s all "suffer"
together—not from physical illness, but from a desire to grow closer to God and
worship Him with all our hearts.
Come! Let’s all Suffer from Sunday Service Fever!
